Curio Podcast App Prototype
UX Research // UX Design
Completed in 2019, this project fulfilled the requirements for my MA thesis at the Maryland Institute College of Art. The seeds of the project began with a frustrating 2018 update to the iphone podcast app that made a familiar experience suddenly harder to use. As a daily podcast listener, I became acutely aware of what I felt were poor design choices and was inspired to explore how podcast apps could work better—first in a UX course, then expanded in this deeper thesis investigation.
The result is a basic prototype for a podcast app that reimagines how users discover and engage with content. Grounded in user research and a competitive audit, the design emphasizes simple, intuitive functionality while exploring new ways to surface and connect podcast topics. Though the podcasting space has evolved quite a bit since, the project remains a strong example of my UX research, prototyping, and design thinking.
